The Electoral Compass, a vital global partnership between the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID), is seeking a motivated Digital Democracy Analyst. This initiative, under UNDP’s G4PP program, collaborates with over 145 partners worldwide to strengthen elections. You will focus on Latin America and the Caribbean, promoting innovative approaches to digital democracy and combating harmful information.
Key Responsibilities:
Program Support for Digital Democracy Initiatives
You will provide crucial support for the Electoral Compass’s digital democracy activities globally. Your focus will be on Latin America and the Caribbean. This includes offering technical assistance to UNDP teams, electoral management bodies, and parliaments on key issues like information integrity, digital policy, and digital transformation.
Leading Reporting and Advocacy Efforts
You will take the lead in gathering evidence of the program’s impact. You will also be responsible for drafting compelling reports for our donors. This work will be done in close collaboration with BPPS and relevant country offices. Additionally, you will participate in important external meetings related to partnerships and advocacy with UN partners and other stakeholders.
Contributing to Strategic Events and Cross-Learning
You will play a key role in the design and implementation of strategic events and valuable cross-learning opportunities developed within the Electoral Compass framework. These initiatives aim to share knowledge and foster collaboration.
Supporting eMonitor+ Implementation in the Region
You will support the implementation of eMonitor+, UNDP’s in-house social media listening tool, specifically in Latin America and the Caribbean. Working closely with BPPS’ Digital Democracy Specialist, you will help facilitate training and capacity development programs on information integrity, digital policy, and digital transformation.
Identifying Innovation and Best Practices
You will actively seek out innovative approaches and effective tools to strengthen UNDP’s global policy framework and digital tool portfolio. This includes finding solutions to address online hate speech, the spread of disinformation, and technology-facilitated gender-based violence. You will also work with other UNDP units to tailor global solutions to the specific needs of Latin America and the Caribbean.
Contributing to Research and Policy Development
You will contribute to UNDP’s data gathering, conduct thorough research, support the development of relevant policies, and participate in the implementation of activities focused on strengthening information integrity, promoting rights-based digital policy, and advancing digital transformation in Latin America and the Caribbean.
Establishing Key Partnerships
You will build and maintain strong partnerships with regional organizations, civil society groups, researchers, academics, technology firms, UN agencies, and international NGOs working on digital democracy in Latin America and the Caribbean. You will also support RBLAC and its country offices in their advocacy efforts in these critical areas.
Qualifications:
- Education: You will need an advanced university degree (Master’s) in Political Science, International Cooperation, Development Studies, Media and Communication, or a related field. A Bachelor’s degree in these fields with at least two years of relevant professional experience may also be considered.
- Experience: If you have a Master’s degree, no prior professional work experience is required. However, if you have a Bachelor’s degree, you will need a minimum of two years of relevant professional experience in governance, electoral assistance, or other related development areas.
- Reporting and Communication Skills: You should have experience producing high-quality reports and effective communication materials for high-level audiences, especially international donors.
- Digital Media Monitoring Experience: Experience in digital media monitoring and a good understanding of social media listening methodologies are important.
- Language Skills: Fluency in both Spanish and English is essential. Proficiency in another UN working language is desirable.
